Tom Simmons, 4th Grade Profile Photo

Born and raised in Northern California, Tom’s journey to the classroom began as a scuba diving instructor, teaching rising 6th graders how to scuba dive from catamarans in the Caribbean. Years of leading teens on exotic summer programs to faraway places led to a desire to work with students on a more consistent basis. With credentials to teach k-12 and a specialty in English Language Arts, Tom has been teaching for twenty-five years, across three states and two countries and recently earned his National Board Certification. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and his master's degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Now a father of two young kids, Tom spends his free time cooking, running, enjoying live music, and playing with his kids. He and his family alternate summers between North Carolina and neighboring states and his adopted home of Mexico, where his wife is from.
